Tiptoe

An awkward empty silence
Consisting of words
Each of us thinking softly
So as not to have our thoughts
Overheard

How are you doing?
Oh, I'm just fine
We tiptoe through the small talk
So as not to toe the line

It's like some kind of a test
Who will talk about it first?
Civility at it's best
Humanity at it's worst

I understand parting
But not to chase our pride
And I'm okay with boarders
But not with choosing sides
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Remember how we used to be
So carefree and we weren't gonna change

'C
ause we had it all figured out
But it seems so strange now how
We used to laugh the nights away
Sayin' hey, look at all these peoples' lives
So bound and tied down
With all their problems and insecurities

But easy come, quickly go
Floatin' downstream with the flow
Of life's troubled seas
And before we knew it we
Had woken up one day to find

Our minds back from wanderin

And time goin' on again
And every thing requirin' some kind of discipline.
And minutes flyin' by
My oh my
I just keep thinking
How breathing was like drinking
Drunken talking taking time
To taste life ticking by
The wastes of time
The way the weight of life fell away from you and I

When the world just seemed so new
And the words would spill right through
And the only thing we knew
Was we weren't going nowhere

And everything we'd do
There was something in the air
Like we could hear heaven there
Feel it blowing through our hair

We'd all come out of hiding
And were ready to hear out
Love's wistful whispered words
As if they were a….SHOUT!

And I can only hear what I want to hear
And you can only see what you want to see
And we can only be
What we want to be
If we look on the brighter side
Live on the lighter side
Learn a little love is all you've got to give
A little live and let live
Giving back what you take
And accentuate
The positive
